It is tradition that the WRT President picks a Christmas charity so that we can share from our hearts something that will brighten another woman’s life in this season of giving. We have such a special opportunity this year!
Our speaker, Andrea Bierer of Unified Erie directed us to a very worthy charity — the Nurse-Family Partnership. The Nurse-Family Partnership is an evidence-based community healthcare program that empowers low-income, first-time mothers to become confident parents and strong women by partnering them with nurse home visitors. This trusted relationship instills a level of confidence in the first-time moms that will help guide them and their children to successful futures.
This year, we’re asking our membership to support these two wonderful organizations at our annual holiday party. As we’ve done in years past, WRT will collect requested donations to support the charity’s mission. The list of requested donations for Nurse-Family Partnership include:
- Boppy Pillows (for breast feeding initiative)
- Baby gates (any kind)
- Bus Passes
- Gift Cards to Walmart ($25 or less) towards baby needs and groceries
I know this is a busy and ‘expensive’ season but, as you have always done in the past, I ask you to once again celebrate with extreme generosity. I encourage you to invest in the future of our city and our region by being generous with your gifts again this year. If you cannot attend the holiday party, I still encourage you to donate this year if you can. Our support helps many first time mothers have a chance to find growth, excellence, motivation and strength because you gave this year.
Warmest Regards of the Season,
Maryanne Thornton, WRT President
